The indie kids, huh? (…) always the ones who end up being the Chosen One when the vampires come calling (…) They’re too cool to ever go to prom or listen to music other than jazz while reading poetry. They’ve always got some story going on that they’re the heroes of. The rest of us just have to live here, hovering around the edges, left out of it all, for the most part.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

I know this sounds ridiculous but I’m going to say it anyway. I put off reading Ransom Riggs’ Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children because I hated the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. Yup, I judged one author’s work based on his marital status to another author… Classy.

But the great reviews, and the found photos that are so integral to the text, eventually reeled me in.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

I was in the mood for a fluffy teenage romance, something light that I didn’t have to think about.

Through booktube and other online reviews I saw people raving about To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. Words like “cute” and “sugary” were thrown about like confetti at Mardi Gras, which definitely piqued my interest.

Bands, Brownies, and Books in Southampton

I don’t like being in one place for too long. That’s just the way it is. So in between exam weeks I jumped on a plane and paid a visit to my family who’ve recently moved from Auckland, New Zealand to Southampton, England. Yup, just a little bit closer. The choice of weekend had nothing to do with a certain band playing in Southampton at the same time… maybe.
